Brink: No Girls Allowed

So here we have yet another game where you are not allowed the option to be female--either the devs would rather make realistic walls instead or it would just be too haaaard for them to create female models, or, heck, they write out the wimminfolk by having them be artificially inseminated or gang-raped until they produce babies.

There is something that is deeply disturbing about the way that female characters are considered superfluous, and a "feature" that could be dropped. I understand that there is a gross gender inbalance amongst game devs...but the sad fact is, when they create games that either ignore or alienate women, this imbalance is going to continue, because the NOT FOR YOU is coming through loud and clear.

I can agree with this. I mean, you can bring up the argument that female characters in one-on-one fighters like KoF or Tekken are strong, key characters in the game but it's pretty hard to explain why most of them fit into one of the typical stereotypes:

(a) scantily clad, big breasted
(b) strangely provactive to fully clothed, submissive doll
(c) so-called "dyke"

The same goes for Final Fantasy (Tifa is big-breasted and short-shirted/Lulu extremely buxom and fetishistic in dress, Aeris/Yuna fully clothed by typical Asian stereotype submissive woman, etc.) and pretty much any other game.

It does come down to who the developers are really gearing the game towards. The target demographic is obviously not the female gamer population...if it was, a half-naked woman who flashes her crotch with every kick would be out of the question.
